School Programme

The project aims at improving academic performance of students and reducing the dropout rates through Remedial coaching classes and educational material kit distribution for the needy students.

a) SAHELI has initiated remedial coaching classes with aims at providing special attention to academically weak students. It will also help to identify the gifted & talented students. Subsequently, helping them to raise confidence level, improve academic performance and, in their overall personal development. For selecting academically weak students, COVID-19 pandemic related lockdown was taken into account as a general criterion. It was pointed out by the teachers as well as observed through preliminary classroom interactions with students that in general, students in primary schools have suffered a considerable loss of touch with schooling due to online schooling during the pandemic. While the first and second standards’ students missed out their pre-primary schooling which are foundational years for the further schooling, third standard onwards students have lost touch with studies. Therefore, after consultation with the teachers, remedial classes are being arranged in three centres for English, Maths, Marathi grammar, EVS and subjects for state-level scholarship examination. Under project we have reached more than 1000 plus students.

b) Educational support will help needy students to continue their studies, enhance academic performance and reduce dropout rate. while creating awareness among parents about supporting their children’ education. Household visits and one-to-one interactions with the parents helped to understand the socio-economic status of the families. For year 2020-23, 1500 plus students from weaker section of communities have been identified for the educational support. Items in the educational support kit for these students have been finalized after consulting schools’ principals and teachers.

Anganwadi Programme:

Anganwadis play an important role as institute that ensures nourishment and preschool education for young children. Since 80% of the human brain is developed by the age of six years of age, it is very important to facilitate anganwadis so the institute can deliver its services. Capacity building of anganwadi workers and helpers is necessary for ensuring for better functioning of anganwadis. The process-flow was similar to that of school programme; however, for anganwadis, relevant authorities – child development project officer, anganwadi supervisor and anganwadisevikas’ inputs were taken into account. For year 2020-2023, 1200 plus childrens from local communities have been enrolled under anganwadi programme.
